How to Bet on Dota 2: The International & EWC 2026 Betting Guide

Dota 2 is the title I spent the most time on before MLBB took over my schedule. I've followed TI since the original Valve invitational, tracked the DPC through its various format changes, and watched SEA Dota fluctuate from serious contender to afterthought and back again. It's a game where the betting market is generally competent for top-tier teams but still has gaps — especially around regional matchups and tournament bracket positioning.

Here's how I think about Dota 2 betting.

The Event Calendar

The DPC (Dota Pro Circuit) runs across six regions: Western Europe, Eastern Europe/CIS, North America, South America, China, and SEA. Each region has its own league, and results feed into Major invites throughout the year. The International is the season-ending world championship — the biggest prize pool in esports, funded partly by the Battle Pass compendium.

• The International — The marquee event. Group stage into double-elimination bracket. Prize pool is typically $40M+. The market is efficient here for top Western EU and Chinese teams, less so for SEA and SA.
• DPC Majors — Four or five per year, each a major qualifier and standalone tournament. Good for outright and bracket stage markets.

Teams to Know

Western Europe has dominated Dota 2 for most of the past decade. Team Spirit (back-to-back TI champions), Tundra Esports, and OG are the names the market prices most accurately. Xtreme Gaming and Team Aster represent Chinese Dota, which runs hot and cold at international events but is never far from the top.

For SEA specifically: Team Talon and Fnatic SEA have been the most consistent. The challenge with SEA Dota is roster volatility — shuffles between seasons happen constantly, so always verify who's actually playing before you bet an outright.

Markets Worth Using

• Match Winner — Standard, but Dota is Bo3 at most stages which means a single draft difference can flip a result. Don't treat it like a coin flip when teams are within 20% of each other on the odds.
• Game Handicap — More useful than match winner in most cases. If I think a team wins 2-0, the -1.5 game line pays meaningfully better. Requires knowing whether a team is capable of stomping or tends to go to game 3.
• First Blood — Aggressive early-game compositions and teams known for level-1 rosh attempts push this line. Useful if you know the draft before placing.
• Total Kills Over/Under — Depends heavily on draft style. Deathball compositions and aggressive tempo heroes push the over. Turtle, hard carry lineups run slow games.
• Tournament Outright — The most interesting market at TI and Majors. Spirit and top EU teams are accurately priced. SEA and SA outrights are where I'd look for value if regional form suggests they're underrated.

What Dota 2 Bettors Actually Need to Know

• Watch the draft, then bet live — In Dota, the draft tells you a lot about how a game will go. A team with a strong early-game lineup against a defensive carry lineup suggests a shorter game. Use live markets after draft is revealed.
• Patch cycles matter more here than in other games — A single patch can completely change which heroes and strategies are viable. Teams that adapt fast to a new patch in the first two weeks of a season often have better odds than their current form reflects.
• Treat Eastern European teams carefully at LAN — CIS/EEU teams often overperform online qualifiers relative to LAN. Spirit is the exception. Other mid-tier EEU teams can be risky to back at majors.
• Bracket position matters at TI — The double-elimination format means a team in the lower bracket has to win more games. Betting a lower-bracket team to win outright at long odds only works if they're clearly stronger than their position suggests.
